What fits what: pressure washer fittings

More money is wasted in this niche on fittings than on machines. Here is the map.

Four systems dominate, and photographs of them online are near-identical.

Kärcher bayonet

A quarter-turn fitting used across the domestic K-series. Enormous accessory range, entirely proprietary. Kärcher’s professional machines use EASY!Lock, which is a different fitting again.

Nilfisk Click&Clean

Push-fit, used across Nilfisk’s domestic range. Its own accessory ecosystem, smaller than Kärcher’s.

Bosch

Its own connector on the AQT and Aquatak machines. Bosch’s own accessory listings name the compatible machines, which removes most of the guesswork.

M22 thread

The trade standard, used by Kränzle, Scheppach, most petrol machines and a large share of the accessory market — drain hoses, lances, surface cleaners. It is the fitting to prefer on an accessory you want to keep across machines.

Adapter rules

One adapter, rated above your machine’s peak pressure, fully seated, checked for weeping at low pressure first. Never two in series. And read the gender: M22 male and female are not interchangeable, and half the returns in this category are the right adapter the wrong way round.

What we recommend, and why

  1. Kärcher K 5 FJ

    145 bar · 500 l/h · 40 m²/h · 6.3 kg

Five hundred litres an hour and a fixed handle: the point in the range where the machine stops being carried and starts being wheeled.

Best for: A long drive, a large terrace or several vehicles — where flow rate, not pressure, sets the finishing time

    ≈ 250 €

  2. Kränzle K 1152 TS

    130 bar (13 MPa) · self-supporting frame · dirt killer nozzle

A trade machine on a domestic page: less pressure than a mid-range Kärcher, and built to a completely different brief.

Best for: Daily or near-daily use — a workshop, a stable yard, a small business — where downtime costs more than the machine

    ≈ 1100 €

Questions people actually ask

Can I put a Kärcher surface cleaner on a Nilfisk machine?

Only through an adapter, and it is worth asking whether you should. Every adapter is a joint at the highest-pressure point in the system. One is normal practice; two stacked together is a repair waiting to happen. Where the accessory exists in your machine's native fitting, buy that version.

What is the 14 mm and 15 mm business on M22?

M22 fittings come with two different internal insert diameters. They look identical from outside and do not seal properly against each other. If an M22 joint leaks while fully tight, mismatched inserts are the usual cause — check the specification rather than the thread.

The tool we use ourselves

Chosen your machine? Now buy it at the right price.

Pressure washers and floor washers swing by a hundred euros or more across the year, and the biggest "discounts" often land at prices the same model sold for six weeks earlier. UniverTrack tracks the real price history across retailers, spots fake reductions, and alerts you when it is genuinely the moment to buy.
