Because you use it. A control at the machine means walking back across the terrace to change setting, so people do not — they clean everything at the pressure that suited the worst job. A control under your thumb gets adjusted between a wall and a paving slab, which is exactly where most damage happens.
It gives surface-by-surface guidance and it is genuinely aimed at the right problem, which is that people use full pressure everywhere. It is not a capability: the same knowledge sits on this site for free, and the machine works identically without a phone.
