Kärcher K 2 Universal Edition review

The smallest Kärcher that still publishes its flow rate — and the cheapest honest way into the range.

The bottom line Honest at the bottom of the range: it tells you its flow rate, and the hose tells you its limits.

The K 2 Universal Edition is the entry point to Kärcher’s domestic range, and unusually for a machine at this price it publishes the number that matters: 360 l/h alongside its 110 bar.

Flow, at the bottom of the range

Pressure breaks the bond between dirt and surface; litres per hour carry the dirt away. At 360 l/h this machine moves about three-quarters of what a K 4 moves and just over half of a K 5. On a bike or a set of chairs that is invisible. On a terrace it is the difference between an afternoon and a morning.

The three metres

The hose is the shortest on this site. It puts the machine inside the area you are cleaning, which means it gets moved constantly and pulled over by its own hose — the habit that kinks a hose at the gun and eventually splits it. If the job is more than a few metres from a tap, the step up to a longer hose matters more than the step up in bar.

What it shares with the range

The Click&Clean bayonet, which is the same fitting as every other K-series machine. That is worth something: a surface cleaner or a brush bought for this machine still fits when you replace it. It is also proprietary, so nothing bought for a Nilfisk or a Bosch will fit without an adapter.

What we like, and what we don't

Strengths

  • Publishes 360 l/h, so it can be compared with anything else that publishes a flow figure
  • Click&Clean lances, the same fitting as the rest of the K range
  • Listed on all six Amazon stores under one reference

Compromises

  • Three metres of hose is the shortest in the whole comparison
  • 110 bar is below the useful range for old paving and render
  • No pressure adjustment beyond swapping the lance

Questions people actually ask

Is 110 bar enough for anything useful?

For bikes, garden furniture, bins and a car it is entirely adequate — those jobs are decided by detergent and dwell time rather than by pressure. On a terrace that has not been touched in years it will lift the green and struggle with the black, and the 360 l/h is what will make it slow rather than the 110 bar.

What does the three-metre hose actually cost me?

Movement. The machine has to stand inside the area you are cleaning, which means repositioning it every few minutes and pulling it over by its own hose. On a balcony that is nothing; on a drive it is the reason people replace this machine rather than the pressure.
